North Dakota Medicare Supplement Plans

North Dakota Medicare Supplement plans fill in the gap between what the government program, Original Medicare, will cover and the actual medical expenses left up to the beneficiary to pay.

With health care costs always on the rise, a supplement policy will give comfort in knowing that your finances are protected.

Depending on the letter plan you choose, North Dakota Medicare Supplement plans can cover doctor visits, in-home nursing, emergency overseas medical expenses, and more. There is 10 different policy options that a Medicare recipient can select from, lettered A through N.

All plans are standardized by the government and include basic benefits found in the first letter plan, Plan A. As always, policies with the most coverage will have the highest premiums and policies with the lowest coverage will have the lowest premiums. Choosing the right supplemental policy is solely dependent on your personal health care status and financial situation.

North Dakota Medicare Supplemental Insurance Rate Determining Factors

North Dakota Medicare supplemental insurance rates are determined based on many different factors. These factors include your age, location, gender and provider you choose as well as what letter plan you want to go with. As stated above, all the benefits are standardized across all the providers.

This means the benefits will not change per letter plan, no matter what provider you go with. The only difference will be what the provider chooses to charge for that letter plan. That’s why it’s important to compare the prices of all the providers in your area once you choose a letter plan. In addition to the above factors listed, a provider will also use one of three pricing methods.

  1. Community Rated – also called “non-age rated”
  2. Issue Age Rated – also called “entry-age rated”
  3. Attained Age Rated

When to Enroll in Medicare Supplement Plans in North Dakota

There are many types of enrollment periods for Medicare. Click here for a full list of Medicare Enrollment Periods. For Medicare Supplements, the enrollment period that’s most important is your Open Enrollment Period (OEP). The first day of the month after you have enrolled in Medicare Part B and are at least 65 years old is when your OEP will begin. Your OEP will continue over a 6 month period.

It’s important to enroll during this time because you’ll be given guaranteed issue. This means that no provider can deny you coverage due to your current health status or increase your premium rates. You can still enroll after this time frame, but a provider can require you to undergo medical underwriting and deny you coverage or increase your rates.
